How to get Pet Hair Out of Your Carpet

If you have ever moved into a home and the carpets were never really cleaned, you’re left with looking and feeling the dirt and pet hair from another family. The first thing that is typically on the top of the list is to get them cleaned professionally. As wonderful as that sounds it might not be financially possible for some after having just made a move. So, what can you do?

The first thing to do is vacuum, vacuum, vacuum! This will help to get much of the hair and dirt up. It is good to go through each room of the house and vacuum it multiple times. This is time consuming, but it will go a long way in the process of getting your carpet looking and feeling good. You might be thinking that you can get away with just one quick thorough vacuum but if you want to make sure that you have done a thorough job on your carpets this first step is crucially important.

After you have done a thorough vacuum you’ll want to do a full-on attack of the pet hair. Depending on the type of pile you have will change the type of tool you will need. Even though the vacuum can get a lot of pet hair it isn’t able to pull it from deep within the fibers. Rubber attracts hair to it like a magnet. If you have a shorter type of carpet pile then you’re going to want to use a squeegee with small strokes across the carpet collecting the hair that is deep within the fibers. If you have a longer type of carpet pile then you’ll want to purchase a rubber broom and do the same thing. After you have finished the room it’ll be time to do the final vacuum.

The next step is to rent a carpet cleaning machine for very little at your local Walmart store. You’re going to want to make sure that you go slow and take your time on each room. There are some rooms that you’ll feel the need to be done several times. If you’re seeing that the water is coming back really dark then you’ll want to clean the room again. This will pick up a lot of the dirt that the pets and others have brought in over the years. Be thorough and take your time with it. If you’re seeing some stains that won’t come out while you’re carpet cleaning, then take a moment to treat them.

After you have vacuumed and cleaned your carpets it becomes a hurry up and wait game. Waiting for the carpet to dry can be a pain but it will feel like new when it’s all said and done. This is the final step unless you have stains that are having a hard time coming out yet. When faced with those challenges, doing research can be a big help in eradicating it. If you know what it is, you’ll know how to treat it best. If you can’t pinpoint what it is then research its properties such as the color texture.
