Why Is My Carpet Buckling

Why Is My Carpet Buckling

Have you noticed lumps and bumps in your carpet recently? Not only is this unsightly, but it can be hazardous as well. But why did they appear, and what can you do about it?

Poor Installation

Sometimes the cause of buckles can have their roots traced back to the installation of the carpet itself. Some carpet companies choose to use knee kickers when installing. This method and equipment can make the job go by faster, which is why some companies opt to go this route. The problem is that knee kickers rely on the strength behind the individual using them, and sometimes the installer simply did not attach the carpet to the tack strip as tautly as needed. When a tight fit is not achieved, buckles appear more readily.

Dragging Heavy Furniture

Another reason that buckles develop is due to the stretching and pulling that can occur when heavy items are dragged across carpet surfaces. It is only natural that you will need to move heavy things across your home from time to time but get a pair of helping hands when you do. Or you can use a dolly.

Humidity

Prolonged exposure to humid environments will also cause your carpets to buckle. This is especially common when carpeting is present in sunrooms for this reason. If you are experiencing a particularly humid summer where you live, enlist the help of a dehumidifier to help prevent wrinkles from forming on your carpets.

Wetness

In a similar vein, when your carpet is exposed to wetness for prolonged periods of time, it is also susceptible to buckling. Any spills or pet accidents should be cleaned and dried with haste. Place a fan in front of the wet area to dry it out quickly.

These are some of the most common reasons that your carpets may be buckling. If wrinkles and buckles are plaguing your carpeted surfaces, though, all is not lost! Call Ft. Collins Carpet Repair for help. We can get rid of those lumps and bumps at just a fraction of the cost of replacement.
